Chikkamagaluru, Dec 23: In a heart-warming event, Nicholas Social Welfare Society (NSWS) in collaboration with Yes We Can Organization orchestrated a special Christmas gift for the retired priests at Shanti Nilaya, Jyothinagar. The initiative was led by the dynamic youth icon, Shaun D'Souza, in response to a suggestion from the Secretary of SJES and incharge of Shanti Nilaya, Fr Marcel Pinto.
The event unfolded with a thoughtful contribution – hymn books, a cherished Christmas gift for the retired priests. Shaun D'Souza, along with NSWS president Benedict Stevenson D’Souza, Anitha D'Souza and dedicated volunteers, secured the latest edition Kannada hymn books from Mangaluru and presented them to the retired priests.
The esteemed guests of honour included Fr Marcel Pinto, secretary of SJES and incharge of Shanti Nilaya, and senior Fr Pascal Mariyappa. The occasion began with a meaningful Mass, attended by Shaun D'Souza, the Nicholas family, and all the priests. Post the Mass, the hymn books were donated as a Christmas gift.
Expressing gratitude, Fr Marcel Pinto and Fr George D'Souza (retired vicar general) acknowledged Shaun D'Souza's initiative at such a young age and acknowledged the selfless service rendered by NSWS and Yes We Can Organization. They also presented a portrait of Jesus to Shaun D'Souza and NSWS as a token of appreciation. They also fondly remembered the late Nicholas D'Souza, highlighting his significant contributions to the community, including the construction of Holy Family Church in Vijayapura, Chikkamagaluru.
Speaking to the press, Shaun D'Souza, a Bill Clinton Awardee and co-founder of Nicholas Society, emphasized the unparalleled dedication of retired priests. He highlighted their lifetime commitment, selfless sacrifice, and wealth of knowledge in spirituality that enriches the lives of those seeking guidance. The gift of hymn books was a token of appreciation for their enduring legacy of service within the church.
Shaun expressed gratitude to Fr Marcel Pinto for their dedicated leadership at Shanti Nilaya and SJES Chikkamagaluru, making positive changes and caring for the priests. He emphasized the importance of recognizing and respecting the commitment of retired priests, setting a precedent for future generations.
