Kundapur, Dec 23: “When the farmers are empowered, the country's agriculture and dairy sector will be more empowered,” said Gururaj Gantihole, MLA of Byndoor assembly constituency. He spoke while inaugurating the National Farmer's Day and honouring program for senior farmers under the joint auspices of Raitha Seva Sahakari Sangha Nigama, Uppunda and Raithara Siri, Raithara Seva Okkuta Uppunda held at Sri Krishna Lalitha Kalamandir, Naguru.
He further said, “It is very important that Khambadakone Raithara Seva Saharkari Sangha is serving the farmers as a model organization. This is due to the unique contribution of Prakash Chandra Shetty, president of the association.” He also said that the pro-farmer programmes of the Sangha have been recognized as a model.
S Prakash Chandra Shetty, president of Khambadakone Raithara Seva Saharkari Sangha, who presided over the function, said that the government needs to strengthen the agriculture department and stand with the farmers. He said that the celebration of Farmers' Day is not limited to just one day but when more priorities are given at the government level to give confidence to the farmers, it will be helpful for the survival of the agriculture sector.
On the same occasion, Venkata Pujari Ubjeri, a senior progressive farmer, was felicitated and the milk producer who sold the most milk was felicitated.
