Bantwal, Dec 24: A woman jumped into the Phalguni river to death at Puchamogaru near Sangabettu here. This incident came to light on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Vita Marina D'Souza (32),  wife of John Santosh D'Souza and was a resident of Aerodi in Kukkipadi village.

Vita Marina left home on her two-wheeler at 9 pm on Saturday night and then went missing. After that, when the locals came to know about the matter and searched for her, only her two-wheeler was found on the Phalguni river bridge.

The fire brigade also arrived and began the search operation. A dead body was found on Sunday near the Bahugrama drinking water dam, which was built seven years ago.

Financial distress

Recently, she had lodged a complaint with the rural police station about the loss of Rs 21 lac in a money doubling app.

She was previously working as a teacher in a private school. Later, she left the post and became an insurance representative.

It is believed that she took this extreme step due to financial hardships that she faced along with the sorrow of having no children which cast a shadow of gloom in the family which was celebrating the Christmas festival.

Bantwal rural police station SI Bharathi visited the spot. A case has been registered.

When such fraud cases surface and the victims approach the cyber crime investigating authorities, what is the response from them? Nothing. They sleep over the evidence you provide them with, say, the bank account number to which your money hss been fraudulantly transferred, the fraudster's telephone number, no action is taken. The officer sitting at the desk asks himself: 'what is there for me to gain in this?' He is being paid his salary just for sitting on that chair in the office. It is so disgusting that you lose all faith in the rule of law in this country. Another one hundred suicides may happen due to such frauds, but the investigation will remain at the complainant's file level only. It was much better under the British rule as far as crime control is concerned..

@Jeevan, very true; cybercell cops only come to warm the chairs and see if there is any possibility of getting a piece of the cake ; otherwise, they will just make a book entry, always refuse to file a FIR giving some reason or the other; but they will indirectly insult and give lecture to the victim saying that how could you fall into this trap when you are educated....blah..blah.. and brush you off... money pussuka.. gone with the wind.. this is the result of digitalisation.... absolutely no idea how to track the money trail; without involvement of rogue bankers, such frauds are not possible; but somehow there in absolutely no initiative from these chaps as nobody is there to question them... worst than third world..... pathetic situation as victims are left to fend for themselves... only some Divine power can safeguard future victims.!!

RIP! Shocking news 😔; apparently the victim got trapped with bait in a vicious cycle of borrowing money to get back her original loss; and in the bargain went into a borrowing overdrive; the same type of psychological technique is used by people operating gambling games on the roadside wherein they entice the victim by losing their money a couple of times and then making the victim lose....win...lose; this sequence goes on till the victim getting into a trance like condition and emptying his entire pocket unconsciously in the end; these operators, after sucking the entire money from the victim, show sympathy, by then even offeing him some money back to be able to pay for his transport back home safely; exactly the same technique is employed by deep pocketed gang of operators in the stock market, in collusion with the media and self-styled stock analysts (with collusion of regulators without whose tacit participation it's not possible), by entering certain dubious stocks and indulging in multipronged circular trading ( up/down/up) until the gullible day traders get trapped (huge amount locked in) with the stock getting locked in upper circuit; I HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED BOTH SUCH TYPE OF LOOTING USING PSYCHOLOGICAL JHUMLAS! PLEASE NOTE THIS IS MY VERY PERSONAL OPINION BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE AND PERCEPTION AND DOES NOT REFLECT IN ANY MANNER ON THIS PARTICULAR TRAGIC NEWS; WHICH UNFORTUNATELY HAS BECOME VERY COMMON IN DK WHERE PRESUMABLY VICTIMS ARE FLUSH WITH FUNDS TO START THE CYCLE BEFORE GETTING TRAPPED!!😞🙏

Fact of life is:: Nobody supports a person who has hit rock bottom, financially 😞 or in other ways!! Family and friends will only hum like a bee around you till you are strong and stable; when in doldrums, the same people will avoid looking at your face!!
