Bantwal, Dec 29: A young woman, Chaithra (22), lost her life as a speeding car, out of control, struck her as she walked along the footpath with her mother on December 28. The incident took place at Pacchinadka near Kaikamba in B C Road at around 8 pm.

Chaithra, a local resident employed in a private cloth shop in Mangaluru, had taken leave to attend the Roce ceremony of her friend. Accompanied by her mother, they were en route to her friend's house when a speeding car collided with Chaithra, causing severe injuries. Traffic ASI Suresh Padar and head constable Ramesh rushed her to a private hospital in Mangaluru, but tragically, Chaithra succumbed to her injuries around 1 am on December 29.

The car, having lost control after hitting Chaithra, collided with an electricity pole and the compound wall of a nearby house before coming to a stop. All four occupants, including the driver, fled the scene, heading towards Mallur.

Chaithra, the daughter of the late renowned makeup artist Bhaskar Acharya, was engaged to a groom from Kodyadka, with their wedding scheduled for March 3.

Local residents suspect that the car's occupants may have been under the influence of ganja. The relatives of the deceased have filed a complaint with the police.

The Melkar traffic police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

What kind of driving is this. Cancel his driving licence and put him behind bars for life. Also levy heavy penalty on the driver.

Local residents suspect that the car's occupants may have been under the influence of ganja. The relatives of the deceased have filed a complaint with the police. What a shame. We are becoming drug hub. Some weeks ago there was similar accident that is person heavy on drugs knocked down few ladies and one killed. What happened to that case? Our laws are very liberal to influential criminals. They get bail easily and many innocent lives are being lost. When there will be an end to this menace???

A fleeting moment of death but lifelong agony for parents and loved ones. Over the years every time the parents see other young girls married and settled in life they will think of the one they lost for no fault. Prayers to the departed soul and courage to the loved ones for this irreplaceable loss.

do you have any statistics to show fatal road accidents are more common in third-world countries than in first-world countries, or is it just your assumption?

Even footpaths, pavements and nearby spaces are also dangerous nowadays... These callous fellows can strike like a lightning at any time unawares... They will be caught finally... But of what use... A life is lost brutally... They may hire great lawyers and passing time will make the case cold... RIP to the departed young soul...

Very true; as days pass, the number of tragic road accidents are increasing manifold, mostly killing and maiming innocent people!! Only Divine Providence can protect the travellers in small vehicles and two wheelers, and those walking on the roadsides!😞🙏
