Asuncion, Sep 11 (IANS/EFE): Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin, back in Asuncion after 15 years away, treated his Paraguayan fans to a euphoric concert on his "Musica + Alma + Sexo World Tour".
The Puerto Rican singer appeared Friday at the Paraguayan Jockey Club before an audience of more than 12,000, mostly young people, according to figures released by the event's organizers.
The impressive stage setting, a show of lights and ecstatic choreograpy projected on two giant screens, were some of the main features of a show that lasted two hours, during which the artist ran through his best-known hits.
He also sang tunes from his new disc, "Mas" (More), which is also the name of a single on the album.
Among the numbers that his fans cheered and sang along with most were "Dime que Me Quieres" (Tell Me You Love Me), "Livin' la Vida Loca", "She Bangs", "Shake Your Bon Bon", "Maria", "Tu Recuerdo" (Your Memory), "Frio" (Cold), as well as "Lola, Lola".
Also winning applause were "Pegate" (Get Closer), "La Bomba" (Pump), and the famous "Cup of Life", which set the style for World Cup theme songs.
"Lo Mejor de Mi Vida" (The Best Thing in My Life), which was the first single from the "Mas" album, brought the recital to a climax, while earlier the show included testimonies and messages in defense of equality among people, whatever their differences.
Martin, together with his sons Valentin and Matteo, arrived Wednesday afternoon in Asuncion on a private plane and checked into a downtown hotel.
Also in his entourage in Paraguay was the tour's 68-man crew.
In a statement, the Puerto Rican said that the "Musica + Alma + Sexo World Tour" is an "A-1 show for an A-1 audience".
He also said that his frenetic, crazy celebrity life is over.
"I'm here today full of peace and quiet, but with the same energy," he said.
Martin appeared in Asuncion after shows in Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, with plans to return to the latter country for more concerts.
