Sullia, Jan 7: A lone tusker entered a farm near Kemanaballi of Jalsoor village in the taluk on Friday, January 5 in the night and destroyed the crops.

The elephant entered the farm belonging to Jayananda and uprooted six coconut trees. It also demolished a memorial that was built on the farm land in memory of Jayananda's late father.

The tusker destroyed the fenced barbed wire of the farms of Sadananda Maniyani and Jyoti.

The same elephant had caused widespread destruction at Panjikallu, Muroor and Bellippady areas earlier.

Later it roamed around Kanakamajalu, Derkaje, Kudkuli, Kapila, Mugeru, Pernaje, Perlampadi and Koltige. Now it has been located in Kemanaballi.

Locals say that the elephant is camping near Kemanaballi Falls during the day time before it invades the farms in the night.

Elephants and other wild animals are straying to farms because of lack of food. Arrangements must be made to provide animals good food . Some African nations do that and we can also do that. I am sure government shall do this soon

Thanks to rampant deforestation with help of highly corrupt officials and forest wealth smuggling mafia the wild animal menace will become uncontrollable...... making the life of adjacent estate owners miserable as the summer draws near; just a matter of time these wild jumbos and other ferocious animals make their way into city limits in search of water and food!!
