Mangaluru, Jan 10: Father Muller Medical College's department of urology made a momentous stride in the realm of medical education and research with its inaugural dual-event programme on January 8. The day unfolded with the ‘Update on mRCC,’ at the AV Hall, followed by the distinguished ‘Excellence in Urology Oration’ delivered by Dr Rajeeva T P, the scientific chair of the Society of Indian Urology (SIU), at the Decennial Hall of the library building (Knowledge Centre) at FMMC.
The event, graced by esteemed guests and dignitaries, radiated grandeur. Dr Anand Venugopal, chief operating officer of teaching hospitals at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), honoured the occasion as the guest of honour, while Fr Ajith B Menezes, administrator of FMMC, held the position of president.
Distinguished personalities in attendance included Dr Antony Sylvan D'Souza, dean of FMMC, Dr B M Zeeshan Hameed, Prof and HOD serving as organizing chairman, Dr Prashanth Adiga, Prof who assumed the role of organizing secretary, along with faculty and postgraduate students.
The ‘Update on mRCC’ session unfolded with a series of insightful presentations. Dr Zeeshan initiated the event, followed by a talk from Dr Nandakishore Bhat, associate professor, department of urology, discussing the ‘Role of Surgery in mRCC / T4 Diseases.’ Dr Dinesh Shet, HOD medical oncology, presented on ‘Newer Drugs in mRCC.’ A panel discussion on case scenarios ensued, featuring Dr Rajeev T P, Dr Nischit D'Souza, Dr Dinesh Shet, and Dr Sandesh Rao, followed by a dynamic question-answer session.
Subsequently, Dr Rajeeva T P took the stage for the ‘Excellence in Urology Oration,’ sharing profound insights on his journey in urology and mentorship, thereby enlightening the audience on advancements in the field.
The event, convened by Dr Suyog Shetty and Dr Abheesh Hegde, included an address by Fr Ajith as president and a heartfelt tribute to Dr P Venugopal and Dr G G Laxman Prabhu.
This symposium not only provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge but also celebrated Father Muller Medical College's unwavering commitment to excellence in medical education and research.
