Sullia, Jan 12: The inauguration of five brand new houses which were completely donated by multilingual movie producer and philanthropist Ron Rodrigues London was held on Wednesday, January 10 at Balpa, Sullia near here.

Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, New and Renewable Energy Bhagawanth Khuba was handed over the new houses built for the needy in the Sansad Adarsh Gramotsava event. The minister lauded Ron London for his contribution towards the society and his immense support to government's projects and its execution.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, a key person of the gramotsava said, "A total of Rs 58 crore has been spent on various developmental projects in Balpa-Kinya grama panchayat under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. As much as 90% of the project work has been completed and in one or two months it will be made available for the public. Donors like Ron Rodrigues also joined hands with us for upliftment of the poor. By contributing to Sansad Adarsh Grama Yojana, Ron Rodrigues exhibited his social responsibility and commitment towards the society."

Leader of Opposition in Council Kota Srinivas Poojary, Odiyooru Seer Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji, local MLA Bhagirathi Murulya, MLC Pratap Simha Nayak, former MLA S Angara, MRPL director Krishnaraj Hegde, Balpa grama panchayath president Harish Karje and other representatives and officials were present on the dais.  

Ron Rodrigues, an entrepreneur of Mangaluru origin, now settled in the UK, has achieved in various fields. Being a prominent Indian community leader he handed over the reins of leadership to many Indian organisations in London.

He created wonders from the soil of Britain. He is the first person who cultivated Indian Banana in London and was featured in many UK and European-based magazines. He has also acted in more than 7 Konkani and Tulu movies besides two teleserials. He was also the producer of a few movies. Besides acting, he has also produced a Konkani serial.

In social service Ron Rodrigues has remained mainly focused on the education of financially backward children. He has regularly sponsored many students from the primary level right up to their higher studies.
