Srinagar, Sep 14 (IANS): A day after the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) divisional commander was killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town, separatist guerrillas Wednesday attacked a paramilitary camp in the town but could not cause any damage, police said.

A camp of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the main market of Sopore, 54 km from here, was attacked with automatic weapons in the afternoon.

"No damage was caused in the attack. It appears the militants were trying to enforce a shutdown on the traffic which was moving normally in the town," Syed Imtiyaz Hussain, superintendent of police (Sopore), told IANS.

"Despite the firing by the militants, traffic continues to run normally here," he added.

Markets and other business establishments were, however, closed.

Abdullah Uni, the divisional commander of LeT, was killed in Sopore Tuesday afternoon. Identified as Azhar Malik of Multan, who worked under the code name of Abdullah Uni, the slain militant has been described as the most wanted guerrilla commander in the valley.

Police here also described the killing of the guerrilla commander as a big success in their ongoing campaign against separatist violence.
