Mangaluru, Jan 14: In a tragic incident near Nantoor in the city, a laborer met his demise as he was strangled to death by his wife.
Hanumanthappa was a habitual heavy drinker who would create disturbances daily, often subjecting his wife, Geetha, to physical abuse. On the night of January 10, in an inebriated state, Hanumanthappa had another altercation with his wife after eating and sleeping with her and their children. During this altercation, Geetha, unable to endure her husband's violence any longer, reportedly grabbed his neck with a mundu and strangled him to death.
Initially, Geetha had filed a complaint with the police, asserting that Hanumanthappa died due to excessive drinking or some underlying illness. In her statement, she claimed, "Hanumanthappa, who was extremely drunk, was not around when I checked at 2 am. Upon looking outside, I found him vomiting near the gate and unable to speak. I called my brother and informed him. When he arrived, we rushed him to the hospital. However, the doctor pronounced that my husband had died immediately, possibly due to excessive alcohol consumption or some other ailment."
Following an autopsy conducted on Hanumanthappa, the police determined that it was a case of murder, with evidence of strangulation and suffocation. Subsequent interrogation of Geetha confirmed her involvement in the murder of Hanumanthappa.

Sun, Jan 14 2024In this case the judiciary will certaily condider this hapless woman's condition and give her a very light punishment. She had to take care of the family as well as put up with the cruel drunkard of a husband. Though killing him cannot be considered right, but that was the only way she could come out of the situation at that point of time. I salute every woman who puts up with such devils.
