Mangaluru: Customs nabs two passengers concealing 815g of 24-carat gold

Mangaluru, Jan 14: In a successful operation, officers of Mangaluru Customs intercepted two passengers arriving from Abu Dhabi and Dubai on AI Express flights IX816 and IX814 on January 1. Utilizing profiling and extensive surveillance techniques, the customs officers conducted frisking, scanning, and open examination of checked-in baggage, leading to the discovery of gold weighing 815 grams (net) with a 24-carat purity.

The estimated value of the seized gold is Rs 50,93,750/-. The passengers had concealed the gold in various forms, including three oval-shaped objects with gold paste hidden in their rectum and gold paste concealed inside chocolate boxes in their checked-in baggage.
