Media Release

Mangaluru, Jan 14: St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru witnessed the joyful beginning of Aashiyana - a dedicated fundraising show for providing shelter and support. The silver jubilee of NAVIDAD is being celebrated this year and Aashiyana is in honour of this best practice of the college where staff and students make a conscious choice to help in the construction of a house for a deserving member of the Agnesian family during the Christmas season.

The first event of this year was the rousing launch of the raffle sale of Aashiyana, which was done in the presence of the college principal, Sr Dr Venissa A.C., the vice principal Sr Clara AC, the PG coordinator Sr Dr Vinora AC, Sr Christina A.C. under the leadership of the show’s convenor Dr Devi Prabha Alva, Associate Professor.

During the launch which began with a prayer song, a flashmob’s performance culminated in an innovative and ecofriendly presentation of the name of the show. The raffle sale was formally opened by Sr Dr Venissa AC, who also bought the first book of raffle tickets. Several books were bought immediately after by the faculty and students.

The books were then given to mentors for distribution among the mentees. In her message to the audience, the Principal motivated the students to work with commitment towards the cause of Aashiyana by stating that one of her research findings was that it is possible for each individual in the country to own a house, if resources are utilized in the right direction, and through Aashiyana, the students and staff of Agnes could provide at least a brick for a person’s home. She ended by seeking God’s blessings for the noble cause of Navidad silver jubilee celebrations, and to provide everyone with the generosity of heart for the purpose./
