Mangaluru, Jan 14: A fire broke out in a house on Friday, January 12, in the night on the outskirts of the city Bajal Pallakere resulting in the destruction of household articles valued at more than Rs 18 lac that included furniture and decorative items.
Lakshminarayan, a resident of Bajal Pallakeda, who was running a store selling decorative items in the city had kept the materials used on the slab in front of his house in Pallakere.
He had gone out for work on Friday evening. A fire broke out at around 11 pm. Neighbours came to the rescue of Lakshminarayan's wife who was then at home.
The fire brigade team soon after arrived at the spot and managed to extinguish the fire in an operation.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath visited the spot where the incident took place on Saturday morning and consoled the members of Lakshminarayan's family. He assured the family of government assistance for house repairs and also his personal cooperation.
Former MLC Ivan D'Souza also visited the family and directed the Tahsildar to provide immediate relief.
