Mangaluru, Jan 14: In connection with a POCSO case registered in Bantwal rural station last year, a POCSO special court in Mangaluru has ordered acquittal of an accused in the case.

A bench headed by Manjula Itti, Special POCSO and Additional District and Sessions Judge of Mangaluru gave the judgement.

Shekhar Pujari, who lived in Kukkuri of Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, was accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl at his neighbour's house.

The police, which conducted the preliminary investigation had submitted a charge sheet to the court stating that the accused had sexually assaulted the minor girl and that it was confirmed during the investigation going by the evidences collected.

But the special court held that prosecution failed to prove the offence and ordered the acquittal of the accused.
