Hindu religion is not BJP’s private property: D K Shivakumar

Bengaluru, Jan 24 (IANS): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar alleged on Tuesday that the BJP is politicising religion, adding that Lord Rama is not the property of the saffron party.

Speaking in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said, “The BJP is playing politics with religion. There should be dharma in politics, but not the other way round. There is Rama in Siddaramaiah, Shiva in Shivakumar, Hari in Hariprasad and Krishna in Krishna Byregowa’s names. Hindu religion is not BJP’s private property,” he said.

“Our government has been giving equal importance to the Muzrai department, Haj Committee and Minority Welfare department. The BJP was in power, why did it not take up people-centric programmes?

"The five guarantee schemes are benefitting people from all castes and creeds. We had a government with the JD-S. Now, they have joined hands with the same people who brought down that government,” he said.

Asked about BJP leaders’ criticism about the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister raising ‘Jai Sri Ram’ chants, he said, “Is Sri Rama their personal property? Rama belongs to everyone. They are spreading lies to project Congress as anti-Hindu. The Muzrai department under the leadership of Ramalinga Reddy has taken up special poojas in all the temples and the BJP can’t digest this."

"United we stand, divided we fall". I'm not taking any sides, but please remember it takes 2 to Tango. Why haven't we learnt anything from our past mistakes. Take Pakistan and we can clearly see the effects of mixing religion with politics. As a people we are so divided, that small bands of foreigners came conquered and ruled us for over 1,000 years. Communal politics are the order of the day, yet after creating all the mess, we only get united when it is time to blame someone else for this mess that we are creating.

Some parties are using minority vote for past many many years fooling them . Minority should understand this and vote for development in 2024 and strengthen the good work by the central govt. The central govt is not saying that any scheme is for minority or majority it is for all. If minority is not understanding this then it is their loss.

Religion has been used by BJP for the destruction of DEMOCRACY! Religious people must concentrate their duties at Temples, Mosques, Churches, Gurudwaras and worshiping places only. However, BJP leaders are using religion FOR POLITICAL PURPOSE AND GAINS. In fact they fool and cheat the majority Hindus with falls promises based on religion and worshipping Gods to gain political advantage!!! Those countries governed by religious based leaders or fanatics by displaying blind nationalism were under developed and gone for destruction along with the citizens around the WORLD. INDIA may have to go this phase too, if people elect religion based party!!!!

And what would you like to comment on the minority appeasement politics played by Congress for the past 70 years and still going on. Being a majority our children have to pay full fees in institutions, but minorities only get to pay barely anything even though they are financially well doing. Would like to hear your views on this matter!!!

@ Latha didi, you have a point. In 1951, the Indian Parliament passed the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act. However since year 2014 there is a RSS government at central. (as they say & we all know BJP is a political wing of RSS) If they wish, could have given all Temple management to local trusts, including financial responsibility. I wonder its almost 10 years in rule & why they are not doing it! Perhaps they want to keep this matter for next election so that can garner more and more votes.

The tragedy of humanity is that the religion is politicized and commercialized. Real devotion and worship of God is vandalized. Better cleanse oneself and receive the blessings of God. Thank you and God bless each and every one of us.

some time congress says they are with minority, some time with majority. as i understand since independence they used minority only for votes. minorities always voted to congress till 2019 (will not in 2024) and majority who ever vote to BJP are ready to choose them again... yes BJP with Hindus even while they had 2 seat and with them even after reaching 300+ seats in Parliament
