Mangaluru, Jan 29: Adani owned Adani Power Limited, which is operating thermal power plant in Yellur village of Kaup Taluk in Udupi District, today in hands with its CSR wing Adani Foundation, distributed scholarship worth Rs 20 lacs to the identified meritorious students residing in 12 Grama Panchayats around UPCL plant.
As many as 773 students received the scholarship benefits today in the stage programme organized at an open Auditorium of Buntara Bhavan in Padubidri. The programme was kick-started by lighting a lamp by chief guest Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLA, Kaup, Kishore Alva, executive director of Adani Group, Ravi Raj Rao, president of Yellur grama panchayat, Dr Deviprasad Shetty, president of Belapu GP, Shashikala, president of Padubidri GP, Kasturi Praveen, vice-president of Thenka GP, Shivakumar Mendon, president of Bada GP, Rayeshwar Pai, vice president of Palimaru GP, Mamata Divakar Poonja, president of Balakunje GP, Prasad Shetty, president of Majoor GP, Janardhan Acharya, president of Kuthyaru GP, Namitha, president of Mudarangadi GP and Saritha Shetty, president of Inna GP, Santuru Bhaskar Shetty, past president of Belgaum and Padubidri Bunts Sangha.
Kishore Alva, delivering the foreword, informed that Adani Power Limited, Udupi in association with Adani Foundation is executing CSR works in the field of Education, Health, Rural Infrastructure Development, Sports and Cultural activities. Today under Educational Initiatives, Adani Foundation is distributing scholarships to 773 meritorious students, identified through respective GPs, residing in and around UPCL plant, worth totally Rs. 20 lakhs. He told that the students who have secured 85% and above in their academics during the academic year 2021-22 in SSLC, ITI, PUC, Diploma, Graduation, Post-Graduation, Engineering and 60% and above in Medical courses were honored with the scholarships. He informed that honouring the meritorious students with scholarship motivates them to pursue higher studies and will impart thinking of competition among other students. He said that eradication of illiteracy and promoting education to the rural sections of society is also one of the prime focuses of Adani Foundation in the field of education. Alva further informed me that though the Government has implemented various schemes to promote education in the rural areas, the student’s strength in Government Schools is reducing every year. To motivate the students studying in Government Schools, to complete their education, Adani Foundation is providing education kits to nearly 7500 students studying in 80 Government Schools in Kaup Taluk.
Adani Foundation, with the motivation and inspiration by Founder Chairman Gautam Adani, is organizing ‘Udaan’ programme under its focus area of education. Under Udaan, more than 15,000 students have been so far invited to UPCL plant, facilitating them to gain knowledge in their academics and the programme aims at inspiring the students to have a vision in their life.
Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLA, Kaup, spoke and told that UPCL, after taking over by Adani, is executing many developments works in the district in the field of Education, Health and Rural Infrastructure and are commendable. He expressed happiness for the various development works the company is delivering under its CSR for the benefit of society at large in Kaup Taluk. He informed that the Adani Scholarship for the students of rural society is a motivational aspect to enable them to pursue higher education. He advised students to become strong internally and to stay away from drugs. Students should have the moral responsibility to take care of their parents, he added. company’s gift to society in the field of education. He advised students to take the benefit of this scholarship and aim for higher education and work for the development of society.
On behalf of grama panchayat president present on the stage, Belapu grama panchayat president Dr Deviprasad Shetty spoke on the occasion and expressed happiness on the development works being undertaken by Adani UPCL in nearby villages. He informed that UPCL, during the regime of earlier administration, had failed to implement village development works under CSR and had lost villagers’ confidence. Now, after Adani took over the UPCL project, it has gained confidence by way of implementing various development works under its CSR in nearby villages. He informed that Adani company’s CSR is a blessing to all the villagers in Kaup Taluk.
Later Santuru Bhaskar Shetty expressed happiness on Adani Foundation’s CSR initiatives and advised the scholarship recipients to utilize the scholarship for good purpose and students should think of returning their learnings for society and nation development.
