New Delhi, Sep 23: Backing Home Minister P Chidambaram on the 2G spectrum scam issue, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has clarified and ruled out any rows among his ministers. PM also made it very clear to the opposition that they would not give in to the opposition's demand.
An RTI note had earlier revealed Pranab Mukherjee's note to the Prime Minister's Office where in he has stated that Chidambaram could have put an abrupt end to the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
Sources say that Dr Manmohan Singh had made a call to Chidambaram assuring him of his support. He said, "As far as Chidambaram is concerned, as finance minister he continued to enjoy my full confidence and as home minister too he continues to enjoy it."
On the Prime Minister's insistence alone, Pranab made a call to the Home Minister assuring him that he did not point any fingers at him and that the note was prepared by a junior officer as a reply to an RTI question.
Even though the Congress and the government's defense of Chidambaram is strong enough, the Opposition is not likely to let go that easily. It is more likely to continue pressurizing Chidambaram to quit.
The CBI on the other hand has made it very clear at the Supreme Court that Chidambaram has no role to play in the scam issue.
