Mangaluru, Feb 17: An alarming incident occurred on Friday at Thokottu Olapete, where a drug-addicted individual threw stones at the public and assaulted a bystander with a soda bottle. The perpetrator was subsequently apprehended by the public and handed over to the police.

The perpetrator, Mohammed Mustaq, a resident of Manchila, began hurling stones from the vicinity of the auto-rickshaw park towards unsuspecting members of the public and school children passing by. Local resident Rajesh Shetty bravely attempted to intervene and prevent Mustaq, also known as Mista, from causing harm. In response, Mustaq viciously assaulted Rajesh Shetty with a soda bottle obtained from a nearby shop.

Witnessing the attack, the public swiftly intervened, subduing Mustaq and delivering him into the custody of police.

Rajesh Shetty, who bore the brunt of Mustaq's aggression, sustained injuries to his head and hands and has been admitted to a private hospital in Thokottu for treatment. Multiple charges have been filed against Mustaq, and Rajesh Shetty has lodged a formal complaint with the Ullal police, urging them to take appropriate legal action against the accused.
