Kasargod: Karnataka boats seized by Kerala authorities for illegal trawling

Kasargod, Feb 19: The Kerala fisheries department, in collaboration with the Trikaripura, Shiriya, and Bekal coastal police, confiscated three boats from Karnataka for engaging in unauthorized trawling activities during the night.

The boats, namely Ganesh Prasanna, Asian Blue, and Sriranga, were apprehended by Kerala authorities for violating regulations regarding fishing permissions and time restrictions. As a consequence of their actions, the owners of the boats were fined a substantial amount totalling Rs 7.5 lac.

K A Labeeb, the deputy director of fisheries for Kasargod district, provided insights into the operation, stating that the interception occurred when the boats were found conducting trawling operations within 12 nautical miles of the Kumble sea beach during the prohibited night time hours.
