Udupi, Feb 19: "Every citizen should act as per the Constitution of our country and uplift its excellence and move forward to build a strong India," said deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Vidyakumari K.

She was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the cricket tournament and bike rally organized as part of Constitution Awareness drive by the of the district administration, zilla panchayat, city municipal council, youth services department and social welfare department, Udupi at the district playground of Ajjarkad.

She also said, "The Constitution has played its own role in bringing equality, fraternity, national unity. The state government is making an effort to convey the importance of the constitution from door to door through awareness drive. The Constitution Awareness drive is going on very meaningfully and successfully in the district. In view of the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Constitution, there is an awareness movement in the urban and rural parts of the state to proudly proclaim the importance of our Constitution.”

Additional deputy commissioner Mamata Devi, deputy conservator of forests Ganapathy, additional superintendent of police Siddalingappa ST, municipal commissioner Rayappa, and assistant director of sports and youth empowerment department Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty were present.

A friendly cricket match was also organized as part of the awareness drive. The civil servants' team emerged as the winner and the journalist's team won the runner's award in the cricket tournament.

A total of eight teams including DC XI, SP XI, Advocates, Forest Department, CEO XI, Excise, Journalists, and Civic Workers participated in the cricket tournament.

The team of Udupi journalists defeated the SP XI team in the first round and then defeated the DC XI team in the semi-finals to enter the final.

In the final, the team of civil servants defeated the team of journalists and won the title. Nagarjuna of the Civil Workers team and Pratish of the Journalists team bagged the Man of the Match award and All Rounder award.

In the closing ceremony held in the evening, DC Dr Vidyakumari distributed the prizes to the winning teams. Udupi district superintendent of police Dr Arun K., municipal commissioner Rayappa, assistant director of sports and youth empowerment department Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty and others were present.
