Bangalore: Youth Congress - Ramya Withdraws, Cakewalk for Priyanka Kharge

Bangalore, Sep 26: Cine star, Ramya, who had earlier expressed her intention to contest the election for the post of the president of Karnataka state youth Congress committee, sprang a surprise by not filing her nomination for the election on Sunday September 25. Ramya’s entry had promised to provide a touch of glamour to this coveted post, besides putting question marks on the aspirations of Priyanka Kharge, son of union minister, Mallikarjun Kharge, to occupy this position.

The last-minute decision of Ramya, a sandalwood star with tremendous fan following in the state, was totally unexpected. Her move came as a dampener to the spirits of her fans in the state and followers in the party alike. She has thus paved way for a cakewalk for Praiyanka Kharge. Even though six others, Rizwan and Pradeep from Mysore, Srinivas, Shashi, Lokesh and Shaji Das from Bangalore, have also filed their nominations for the election, it is felt that their presence  is inconsequential, taking into account the clout and following enjoyed by Priyanka in the party.

Ramya’s name had surfaced in the forefront from the very day the process of the election to elect a new leader for the state youth Congress was set rolling. Ramya, who entered political career from contesting from Booth No.3 in Shantinagar legislative constituency, was expected to try her hands at donning the mantle of the youth Congress head. The fact that former state Congress president, D K Shivakumar, had strongly backed her candidature, had made everyone to conclude that Ramya will be the next president of Karnataka state youth Congress.
