Mumbai, Sep 26 (IANS): Ice cream major Vadilal Industries Monday said it will now offer its ready-to-eat products lineup in the domestic market.
"Vadilal is focusing on increasing sales of value-added products like ready-to-eat snacks in its domestic products basket," said Devanshu Gandhi, managing director of Vadilal Industries which owns brands like Quick Treat and Garden Fresh.
According to Gandhi, the frozen foods segment in India is expected to grow at 25 percent to 30 percent per annum over the next five years. The current market size is around Rs.1,600 crore to Rs.2,000 crore.
"Sales of frozen parathas have zoomed from 200 cartons per month to over 1,000 cartons a month. Similarly samosa volumes have shot up from 400-to-500 (cartons) in the past to 1,500 cartons," Gandhi said.
The company said that initially the products would be available in Gujarat, Maharastra and Rajasthan at select organised retailers, as there was a capacity constraints for cold storage facilities.
"Over the next few months, the company will expand its reach to Delhi in the north and Bangalore in the south as these are two big markets for frozen foods," the company said in a statement.
The company further said it will employ marketing initiatives such as 'buy-one, get- one-free' and will target to supply its products to flight kitchens service providers, food outlet chains, ship chandlers and others.
The company's product facility in Dharampur in south Gujarat will now have a new fully automated parathas manufacturing facility. Currently the plant has a capacity of 5,400 tonnes per annum.
The company currently offers ready-to-eat snack items like plain and stuffed parathas, samosas, kachoris and will also be launching spring rolls.
