Mangaluru: St Aloysius holds ‘Econovanza 2k24’ economics fest

Mangaluru, Mar 1: The department of economics organized ‘ECONOVANZA 2024’, a day-long national intercollegiate economics fest for the degree and pre-university students by St Aloysius (deemed to be university) was inaugurated on February 29 in L F Rasquinha Hall with the theme ‘VRIDDHI’.

Dr G V Joshi, former professor and chairman, department of economics, Mangalore University & member of Karnataka State Planning Board was the chief guest. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, vice chancellor in-charge presided over the inaugural programme. Dr Narayan Bhat, director of Xavier Block was the guest of honour. Dr Charles Furtado, director of Admin Block; Dr Manohar V Serrao, HOD of economics, student coordinators, Pratham Shetty and Shainal Pinto were present on the dais. Dr Alwyn Misquith, Reji John and Kavitha were the staff coordinators for the fest.



















The programme was inaugurated by the dignitaries in a unique way by dropping a coin in the piggy bank.

Dr G V Joshi in his inaugural address said that economics is also related to subjects like health, biology, constitution and shared his relationship with St Aloysius College over the years.

Dr Praveen Parties SJ, in his presidential remarks explained the establishment for the concept of Econovanza by the late Dr Norbert Lobo and the role played for its development.

Dr Narayan Bhat in his address told the students to think beyond all boundaries and get inspiration from others.

Essay, elocution, turn coat, mad ad, budget preparation, collage, modal making, quiz, fashion show, moclamation competitions were organized for the students of various undergraduate and PU colleges.

On this occasion, actor Prithvi Ambaar announced the release of his movie Matsyagandha with director Devraj Poojary and the film crew.

Actor Anoop Sagar was the chief guest of the valedictory programme and Krishnakumar P P, managing director of Edusphere Overseas was the guest of honour.

As many as 17 UG & PU colleges participated in the competitions. St Aloysius PU College won the overall championship, while SDM Degree College, Ujire bagged the runners up award.

In Eco Model Making, St Aloysius PU College got the first position and Yenapoya (Deemed University) got the second position. St Agnes College (Autonomous) stood first and St Aloysius PU College stood second in essay writing. In the fashion show, St Aloysius PU College got first place and SDM got second place. In the quiz, SDM Degree College, Ujire got the first position, while the Padua degree College got the second position. In the elocution, SDM Degree College, Ujire and St Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru got the first and second prizes respectively. Roshni Nilaya and SDM Degree College bagged the first and second prizes respectively in the turncoat competition. St Agnes College (Autonomous) got the first prize and St Aloysius PU College got the second prize in budget preparation. In the Mad Add competition, SDM Degree College won first place and Roshni Nilaya got the second prize. Government Women's First Grade College Balmatta, got the first prize and Padua degree College got the second prize in collage making. Roshni Nilaya and St Aloysius PU College bagged the first and second prizes respectively in the Mocklamation. Roshni Nilaya and SDM Degree College bagged the first and second prizes respectively in the turncoat competition.
