Scheduled from February 29 to March 7, this prestigious event promises to captivate film enthusiasts worldwide.
Among the selected films for this grand celebration is ‘Dvamdva’, a compelling creation directed by Kling Johnson from Udupi. Kling Johnson, working as a Fire and Safety Officer at Kasturba Hospital Manipal, marks a significant moment for Udupi as it becomes the first-ever Kannada film from the region to be featured at BIFFes.
‘Dvamdva’ delves into the life of Chukki, a female Yakshagana artiste residing in the coastal town of Udupi. The narrative revolves around Chukki's struggle with societal norms, love, and eventual departure from her hometown, only to face scorn upon her return. Based on the novel ‘Deepaviradha Daariyalli’ by Sushanth and published by renowned writer Vasudhendra, the film was produced through a crowdfunding initiative by Johnson's school friends under the banner Benki Batchmates Production Bhadravathi.
Presented by filmmaker Sithesh C Govind, known for his contributions to notable Kannada films, ‘Dvamdva’ promises a unique narrative and a rich portrayal of regional culture. The star-studded cast features local talents, including Rajendra Nayak in the lead role, supported by Bensu Peter, Vipin, Anuraj, and others, with music composed by Giridhar Divan.
The film, which beautifully showcases the coastal landscape of Udupi and the cultural art form Yakshagana, will premiere on March 2 at 3 pm at Dr Rajkumar Bhavana, Karnataka Chalachitra Kalvidhara Sangha, Chamrajpete, Bengaluru. This screening promises to be a momentous occasion, highlighting the vibrant cinematic offerings emerging from Karnataka's cultural landscape.
