Shanghai, Sep 27 (IANS): Over 240 passengers were injured Tuesday when a subway train rear-ended another train here, authorities said.
Most of the injures were light, Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Co. said in a statement.
The accident occurred around 2.50 p.m. following a signal system failure at one station.
About 500 passengers had been evacuated from the trains, reported Xinhua.
Photos posted on weibo.com, China's popular Twitter-like microblogging site, showed many passengers bleeding, with firefighters entering the train to rescue the injured.
Subway services at nine stations on the line had been halted.
