Udupi, Mar 4: The Volunteer Services Organization (VSO), a dedicated social wing of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), successfully hosted "KIDATHON 2024" on March 03, 2024, marking a significant step towards instilling the values of environmental consciousness and sustainability among the younger generation.
Held in the scenic town of Manipal from 5 pm to 7 pm, this unique walkathon brought together over 700 children from the surrounding areas, accompanied by their parents. The enthusiastic participants embarked on a meaningful journey from the MAHE University building premises to Endpoint, Manipal, transforming the event into a vibrant procession of future environmental custodians.
KIDATHON 2024 was not just a walkathon; it was a comprehensive educational experience designed to enlighten and engage young minds on the crucial topics of environment and sustainability. The event featured an array of activities, including street plays, short talks, and multiple interactive games, each meticulously planned to convey the importance of environmental care and sustainable living practices.
In a gesture that resonated with the event's core message, each child was presented with a sapling as a souvenir, along with a certificate of participation. This symbolic act aimed to encourage the young participants to nurture their connection with nature and take active steps towards creating a greener future.
The walkathon was flagged off by Col Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, Head of Campus Safety at MAHE, who emphasized the importance of instilling environmental responsibility in children. He highlighted the role of such initiatives in nation-building, urging parents to support and cultivate the habit of environmental stewardship in their offspring.
