Puttur, Mar 10: The Training and Placement Cell of St Philomena College coordinated a campus recruitment event aimed at filling positions for medical coders at Optum, a prominent multinational healthcare and insurance company headquartered in the United States.
The formal programme was presided over by Dr Vijay Kumar M, the vice principal of the college. In his address to the candidates, Dr Vijay Kumar emphasized the significance of seizing opportunities in life and achieving success through confidence and originality which constitute the crucial aspects during the recruitment process. He also extended congratulations to the officials from Optum for extending the recruitment process to rural students within the college.
Dr Gururaj Kshattri, head of the medical coding department at Optum, provided an overview of the organization and the role of medical coding. Clement Joel Sequeira, the head of the talent acquisition team at Optum who also is an alumnus of the college, along with Michelle Pinto, another senior student and human capital specialist at Optum, facilitated the recruitment process. This marked the third campus recruitment drive conducted by Optum at the college within the past two years, attracting over 250 job seekers from Puttur, Madikeri, and neibouring regions.
Assistance during the recruitment process was provided by BBA students of the college. Candidates who successfully cleared the written test will undergo a compulsory 5-week training programme on medical coding conducted by Optum within the college premises.
