Perpetual excavation of concrete roads in Mangaluru, inconvenience for commuters

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Mar 12: The perpetual excavation of concrete roads in Mangaluru has become a persistent issue, causing inconvenience to the public. These roads are frequently dug up under the pretext of laying pipelines or drainage systems, leading to a recurring cycle of disruptions. It has become commonplace for the relevant authorities and officials to undertake these excavations regularly, exacerbating the frustration of residents.

The situation regarding road excavation in Mangaluru is increasingly concerning, with the KSRTC road having undergone excavation three times in just six months. Furthermore, the work has extended to the area near Bejai circle, causing disruptions for over two weeks as drainage repairs are underway. The Kodialbail road stretch, connecting to TMA Pai Hall and predominantly residential, is experiencing frequent excavations, much to the inconvenience of residents. Similarly, the Mallikatte road towards Bunts Hostel has also been subject to excavation, compounding the inconvenience faced by locals.

The issue of incomplete excavation work is exacerbating the situation, with newly constructed concrete roads often ending up with patchy finishes. Additionally, footpath construction remains incomplete at various locations, with deep pits posing a significant danger to pedestrians. The negligence in footpath maintenance has resulted in hazardous conditions, as evidenced by the unfortunate incident near Jyothi where a woman was seriously injured after falling into a drainage pit. This neglect of footpath infrastructure continues to endanger pedestrians, particularly in areas like Bejai.

The repeated excavation of roads in Mangaluru has sparked public outrage, with taxpayers expressing frustration over what they perceive as a waste of public funds. Criticism has been directed towards the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and officials for their handling of road infrastructure projects. Many are questioning the planning and execution of road work by engineers, particularly regarding the necessity for multiple excavations and the lack of foresight in preventing such disruptions.

What else to expect? All money wasted in unproductive bhagya schemes. Contractors will work at their own pace as they also don't get paid on time.

Corruption is the motivation for this haphazard planning. And this haphazard planning gives them a escape route to, so as not to appropriate blame in the work done.

Though our City roads , main and cross roads are being cut, dug up with pits and trenches our District Administration and MCC Commissioner is very silent and its leads the public to think that they have become deaf and blind. Why they are not questioning the concerned and take remedial measures about digging our City continously

My goodness! It looks better in cemetry than in mangalore roads. No safeguard system installed .Why MCC is not looking at this.Drainage Pipes are almost under the tar road.Looks like noone has really preplanned work for the year ?Only digging .Lot of dust to everybody.Atleast they must install safeguard signs where pepole are walking so closely.Should stop going any vehicles where work is going on.Only God should watch and keep all safe here.

@Rita; you must personally come and see whether the City has really become Smart...or on the way to become a dud zombie city.... with so many vehicles speeding on the roads, it's a high risk venture for those trying to walk on these roads, sans footpaths, to dodge the oncoming traffic and many times bikes and autos being driven in the wrong direction!!

Either it is lack of planning ( the city planning is outsourced to a person who only has a diploma in architecture) or the purpose is to fill coffers- repeated digging brings repeated money to certain people.......or both.

Building and then immediately excavation of roads is being run like a parallel road construction industry in the Smart City; while on the subject matter, these sloppy characters (law enforcers) have no guts to charge all sorts of gross traffic violations happening across the Smart City limits, especially parking of high end, large sized, vehicles in front of various hotels and commercial centres; in fact the rogue cartels of builders who are responsible for building these complexes have openly encroached on govt land meant for pedestrian footpaths; these encroachments, for once, can be seen right opp. KSRTC main bus stand onwards to Kotta chowk....and beyond....no locals (upper middle class and rich) staying in the nearby palatial houses have got the guts to shoo away these vehicles parked in these footpath encroachments or even take evidence pictures and submit to the relevant enforcement agencies.... most localites are extremely busy arranging and attending various religious and social functions day in and out...turning a blind eye to these serious issues.... either due to don't care attitude or simple cowardice... very pathetic state of affairs for the common man who doesn't have an option to use a single mode of good and cheap public transportation......still more and more high rises are being seen constructed at various points in the city; with the drought situation and heatwave conditions flaring up, the residents will have a very tough time ahead.... God save....

Our MCC is wasted smartcity projects funds without any home work. Digging the road laying concrete without changing drainage lines and water pipe lines, within a again digging the concrete road to install new pipe line. Now within 2 months again they start to dig to put power lines, and Mobile cables wires. In last few years done the same things, nothing else. Why they give licence to construct high rise building inside the city when no proper drainage and pipes line????? Inside the city only 4 stories permission to be sanction.not more then that. Our administration and MCC spoiled our beautiful city.

The elected political leaders are more interested in forcibily chanting Jai Shri Ram and making a mockery of school attendance, and students discipline as seen recently. Why do they care about repeated public inconvenience if somebody, somewhere is making a ton of money...next time vote for change.
