Mangaluru, Mar 19:  In an effort to conduct Lok Sabha elections 2024 peacefully and fairly based on guidelines of the Election Commission of India, the Mangaluru city police commissionerate has been implementing preventive measures to maintain public peace and order within its jurisdiction.

As part of this an order has been issued under the Karnataka prevention of dangerous activities of boot leggars, drug offenders, gamblers, goondas, immoral traffic offenders, slum grabbers and video or audio pirates Act 1985 (Karnataka Act no 12 of 1985) (Goonda Act Preventive Detention Act) to detain three persons such as Mohammed Kabeer, 31, a resident of Ullal, Nawaz, 30, a resident of Gurupura and Jaya Prashanth, 30, a resident of Shakthinagar.

Kabeer has been involved in 14 criminal cases and among them is one murder case, three attempt to murder cases, 6 rioting cases, 3 hurt cases and 1 molestation case.

Nawaz has 8 cases against him in Bajpe, Kavoor, Mangaluru rural, east and Barke which includes murder,  attempt to murder,  criminal intimidation, ganja case and drug trafficking cases.

Jayaprashanth has 8 cases against him such as communal rioting, attempt to murder, moral policing, hurt and cases of unlawful assembly.

All the three who have been arrested have several crimes registered against them and have been remanded to judicial custody after coming out on bail.

They have continued to indulge in criminal and anti-social activities which are detrimental to public order. According to the police, it was necessary to initiate action against them and detain them under the provision of Section 8 of the Karnataka Prevention of dangerous activities of boot leggers, drug offenders, gamblers, goondas, immoral traffic offenders,  slum grabbers,  video or audio pirates act 1985 (Karnataka Act no 12 of 1985)

During the last two days externment orders have been issued against 19 rowdy-sheeters. This is in addition to 7 people against whom externment orders were issued earlier this month. They have been externed to different districts and a close watch is being kept over their activities in an effort to have peaceful elections.

Furthermore, up to March 19 as a measure to maintain peace and maintain good behaviour, security bond has been imposed on 367 individuals who are habitual offenders and likely to commit breach of the peace this year.
