Udupi: SMVITM Bantakal organizes awareness programme on ‘Fire and Safety’

Udupi, Mar 22: The NSS Unit in association with counselling cell of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, Udupi and fire safety organization, Udupi jointly organized ‘Awareness programme on Fire and Safety’ on March 18 in the institute premises. 

Vinayk Kalgutikar, district fire officer (DFO), Udupi was the resource person. In his address, he said that the programme was conducted with the aim of promoting awareness and educating the students about the importance of fire safety and health safety. He explained about proper storage of flammable materials, regular maintenance of electrical systems and careful use of open flames can significantly reduce the risk of fires. Vigilance in identifying potential hazards is the first step in prevention, he said. 

He and his team from Udupi fire office conducted live demonstrations to showcase fire safety drills, proper evacuation procedures and correct usage of safety equipment. He also demonstrated basic health screenings and provided advice on maintaining a healthy life style. Participants engaged in hands-on workshops where they learned how to use fire extinguishers and also the preventive measures and emergency responses.

Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal, Dr Ganesh Aithal, vice principal, conveyed their best wishes to the programme. Dr Ravindra H J, first year BE coordinator organized the programme in association with NSS unit and counseling cell. More than 390 students participated in the training programme and got benefited.
