Beltangady: Police seize vehicle transporting arecanut without proper documents

Beltangady, Mar 25: The Dharmasthala police recently intercepted a pick-up vehicle transporting peeled arecanut without the requisite documentation. Upon discovery, the police confiscated both the vehicle and the arecanut, subsequently handing them over to the Commercial Tax Department of Mangaluru. Additionally, a fine was imposed on the driver of the vehicle.

The pickup truck was discovered parked at Satyanapalke Siddabailu Parari of Kalmanja village on the evening of March 22. Upon inquiry, the driver, identified as Nashif (23) and a resident of Kakkinje under Charmadi village, claimed that the vehicle had experienced technical issues, necessitating its roadside parking. Nashif admitted that the vehicle was carrying 200 kg of dried and peeled arecanut. However, when asked to produce the necessary documentation, he stated that he did not possess any.

In response to the violation, the commercial tax department of Mangaluru imposed a fine of Rs 33,346 on the driver.
