Dubai-Mangaluru airfare 'skybound', touches Rs 70k as festival holidays near

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, March 25: The airfare for Dubai to Mangaluru has literally touched the sky and passengers are made to shell out double the fare.

The airfare has gone up due to festivals and summer holidays that are starting next month. The ticket fare used to be Rs 30,000 otherwise. Easter feast is being celebrated on March 31, Ugadi on April 9 and Ramzan on April 11.

A large number of passengers travel between Mangaluru and Dubai. As a large number of people are returning home during festivals, the one-way ticket fare has touched Rs 70,000, according to a report by The Times of India.

The ticket fare during the first week of April has touched Rs 51,000 from Dammam, Rs 70,000 from Dubai, Rs 45,000 from Abu Dhabi and Rs 53,000 from Doha, Qatar. However, the ticket fare for flights from Mangaluru has only marginally risen.

The ticket fares from Mangaluru to Abu Dhabi will be Rs 47,000 while it is Rs 36,000 to Doha, Rs 33,000 to Dammam and Rs 58,000 to Jeddah.

But the ticket fare for flights starting from Kannur and Bengaluru airports which are situated only about 150 kilometers and 350 kilometers away respectively is about half of these fares comparatively. The fare from Dubai to Kannur is about Rs 30,000, the newspaper report said.

Mangalore is dominated by Air india express, which does not give landing rights to other airlines, as they know this is a destination where majority of the citizen reside in gulf countries after the ones from Kerala. Kerala is a model state, which welcomes all the airlines to its airport and the airfare is always minimum due to the seat competition between the airlines. If m'lore gives the landing rights to airlines such like Fly Dubai, Air Arabia, Salam Air, i am sure the fares shall be consentingly lesser and will be controlled due to the seat availability and every airline would like to fly full. But who hears the cries of the citizens ? Now that with the new policy and air india express being taken over by TATA, it has not even changed its service level or efficiency and they are more concentrating only on the parent wing AIR INDIA.

You are just talking about Dubai-Mangalore. Please see about Mumbai- Mangaluru. Flight fares have touches 15,000 despite having 6 flights daily. Matsyagandha Express and CSMT- Mangaluru Express are full throughout the year, private sleeper buses charges hefty around 3500-4500 that too it's fully booked. Should the airlines or railways look upon the drastic rising demand??. Common people suffer very badly.

What you call it ... Sabke saath sabka Vikas....amrut kaal ....achche din ..???? . It's nothing but organised loot and legalized plunder due to wrong aviation policies of the Indian Government. Is there any justification for such fares ....time for people using Mangalore Airport to think....????

Due to the monopoly of AIE and Indigo passengers travelling to DXB to IXE have to pay the high fares. Absence of Jetairways and SpiceJet , advantage is taken.. Nane sake a budget airline ,these 2 airlines are looting the passengers Permission should be given to other airlines too then there will be a healthy competition. Forget about Eid , Christmas and other festivals. Celebrate in gulf countries and let these planes go empty. Then they will learn a lesson.

Rehna, Mangalore, People who are planning their holiday vacation, book air ticket well in advance with much lower price. I don't agree with your allegation. Long back (20years) we used to pay approx. AED 2500/- round the trip air ticket via Mumbai to Mangalore.. Also remember the salary structure that time. Travel duration min 15~24 hrs. Plus, extra language charges at domestic flight. International 40KG free, domestic 20 KG free (RS 60/kg Calculate how much extra). Now, what ever the type of air line, 30KG free and we will be at home for lunch if fly morning flight or for breakfast if travel night flight. So instead of blaming, do your travel plans well in advance for lower airfares. This seasonal hike is not only Indian sector, worldwide same phenomena.

Every month (in fact every other day)..thru the year there is a festival of some kind or the other here..... how can majority of the public afford this kind of money unless he/she is into some extracurricular business; why the concerned authorities not taking any corrective action to curb this jumla of airline cartel of looting poor working class law abiding citizens who remit precious foreign exchange??

"However, the ticket fare for flights from Mangaluru has only marginally risen". When our children have their summer vacation and we return to the UAE when their school reopens, nobody says anything about the rising ticket fares.
