Jeddah, Oct 3: ATS Jeddah pulled off a remarkable win to lift the “Target Guys Summer Cup 2011” by squashing Target Guyz by 16 runs in the flood-lit tournament held here recently.
The tournament was organized by Target Guyz-Jeddah for the noble cause of the community development and welfare programmes. As many as 16 cricket teams including those from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka took part in the tournament.
The organizers said that a major portion of the fund collected for the play-offs would be spent for the cause of releasing the three Mangaloreans, who had been in Jeddah jail for more than 7 years. It is worthwhile to remember that the incarceration case of the trio was highlighted in Daijiworld recently, which motivated Target Guyz to take a lead role in the task.
The match was conducted on the knockout basis for three days on September 15, 16 and 22. Target Guyz and ATS qualified for the final round in the semifinal.
ATS opted first to bat after winning the toss in the final playoff. ATS batsman Mozan demonstrated a outstanding batting that resulted in scoring 34 runs. Aftab, Masood, Abdullah have also exhibited good performances in batting and bowling, which altogether contributed for the increase of the runs of ATS. ATS scored 90 runs after completion of 8 overs, which was a set target for Target Guyz.
Target Guyz’s batsmen Athaullah, Shahbaaz and Hashim scored 27, 18 and 10 runs respectively. Target Guyz was able to gain only 73 runs in allotted 8 overs losing 4 wickets that placed ATS to grab the place of championship and to clinch the Cup-2011.
The Man of the Match title was awarded to Mozan from ATS, Man of the Series title was awarded to Zahid from Target Guyz, Best Bowler of the Tournament title was given to Salauddin from Target guyz, Best Batsman of the Tournament title went to Masood from ATS, Best Wicket Keeper of the Tournament was awarded to Shameer from Target guyz (Skipper), Fair Play Team of the Tournament title went to Kerala Knight Riders, Fair Player of the Tournament title went to Afthab from ATS and Best Fielder of the Tournament title was bagged by Rashid from Target Guyz.
Salim Alampady, Rafeeque, Zameer, Shakeel Kutthar, Rehman, Shakeel KC Road and Vijaya Kumar were the chief guests on the occasion.
