Sale of liquor banned on election eve, polling, counting days in DK, Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, Mar 25: Deputy Commissioners of the coastal districts have ordered closure of all wine shops, liquor sale depots, toddy shops, liquor manufacturing distilleries, star hotels and clubs in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in the run-up to the polling and on the day of voting.

The DCs of both the districts have also ordered liquor free days ahead of the counting date and on the day of counting of votes.

Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district Mullai Mugilan M P has declared the duration from 6 pm on April 24 till midnight on April 26 and on  days of counting from midnight on June 3 till midnight on June 4 as liquor free days across the district to maintain law and order in connection with Lok Sabha elections 2024.

All wine shops, liquor manufacturing distilleries, star hotels and toddy shops shall remain closed on those days, according to an order issued by the deputy commissioner. 

Sale of liquor banned in Byndoor, Kundapur ahead of May 7  

The Election Commission of India has announced that Lok Sabha elections will be held at Byndoor and Kundapura constituencies on May 7.

In this connection, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district Dr K Vidya Kumari has ordered for closure of all the wine shops, liquor sale depots, toddy shops, liquor manufacturing distilleries, star hotels and clubs at Kundapura and Byndoor taluk limits from 5 pm on May 5 to midnight on May 7 to maintain peace, law and order and public security and to conduct election work in just and peaceful atmosphere.  

The orders are released by the deputy commissioner by exercising the authority vested on her under Karnataka Excise Act General Rules 1967 column 10 (b) and Citizen Representation Act 1951 column 135 (c).
