Mangaluru Mar 27: Deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Muhilan announced, “The election notification will be issued on March 28, with April 4 marking the final date for filing nominations.”

He added, “Due to public holidays on March 29 and 31, nominations cannot be filed on those days. Nominations can be filed at the DC office, with only three vehicles permitted to enter the gate during filing. Additionally, only five individuals, including the candidate, are allowed to file nominations with the returning officer.”

“The candidate must submit Form 2A, Form 26, an oath of affirmation, a no-due certificate, four photos, and details of a newly opened bank account for election expenses. A security deposit of Rs 25,000 is required, with Rs 12,500 for SC/ST candidates,” he clarified.

Providing further election details, he mentioned, “There is a provision for voting from home for individuals aged 85 and above and for PWDs. Once they opt for voting from home, they forfeit the opportunity to vote at a polling center on election day. If they are absent during the official’s first visit, a second visit will be scheduled. However, if they are absent during the second visit, they will miss their chance to vote.”

“Each constituency will have five model polling stations, including a Sakhi polling station, an ethnic polling station, and PWD polling stations, all equipped with amenities such as selfie points,” he added.

Regarding seizures, he reported, “The flying squad (FS) seized 12,797 litres of alcohol valued at Rs 4,168,815, narcotic drugs weighing 1.97586 worth Rs 594,950, and cash totalling Rs 416,000, while the Static Surveillance Team (SST) seized cash amounting to Rs 710,300.”

“After verification, Rs 132,000 was released, with the remaining amount covered by FIRs lodged - Rs 416,000 by the flying squad and Rs 578,300 by the static surveillance team,” he concluded.
