Three Cargo Ships Damaged in Collision


Kolkata, Oct 4 (IANS): Three cargo ships from different countries suffered damages when one of them collided against other two in the Netaji Subhas Dock of Kolkata Port Trust Monday, according to officials. No casualty or injury were reported.

MV Asian Leader, an empty cargo liner registered in Panama, hit two container ships MV Mandana and MV Syphon Voyager while leaving the dock, according to sources in the port trust.

Both the victim ships were at the anchorage ahead of berthing at the dock.

A crane on the Mandana, registered in Malaysia, was damaged as was the hull of Asian Leader.

Some containers in Syphon Voyager, registered in Antigua, also got damaged.

The port trust has ordered a probe into the incident, while the cargo liners were being towed to the port.
