Mangaluru/Udupi, Mar 28: Faithful from across Mangaluru and Udupi observed Maundy Thursday with solemnity and reverence.

Scores of worshippers gathered in churches throughout the region to commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, marking the beginning of the Easter Triduum.

Special services, including the symbolic washing of feet and the Eucharistic celebration, were conducted, with clergy delivering sermons reflecting on the significance of the occasion.

Devotees participated in prayers and reflections, deeply immersed in the spirit of humility and devotion, as they recalled the profound message of love and service exemplified by Jesus on this day.

The observance of Maundy Thursday serves as a poignant reminder of the central themes of sacrifice, compassion, and redemption, as Christians prepare to enter into the solemnity of Good Friday and the joyous celebration of Easter.

Meanwhile, Dr Gerald Issac Lobo, Bishop, Diocese of Udupi celebrated the Holy Eucharist in Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur along with Fr Valerian Mendonca, rector Milagres Cathedral Fr Joy Andrade, assistant parish priest Fr Lawrence Rodrigues. 

To mark the celebration of Maundy Thursday Bishop Dr Gerald Issac Lobo also washed the feet of selected representatives  representing all men, women, youth, religious and elders as a message of Christ's humility and service. The ritual was observed in all churches in coastal Karnataka.
