Doha: DCICAI celebrates International Women’s Day at annual Iftar event

Doha, Apr 2: The Doha Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) hosted a remarkable celebration of Women's International Day, themed ‘Women in Leadership,’ with an Iftar party. The event brought together a gathering of over 150 attendees, including members and their spouses, to honour and empower women in various leadership roles. 

Esteemed women leaders from diverse sectors of society graced the occasion, highlighting the importance of women's leadership in today's world. Bindu N Nair, second secretary (Info, Cultural and Education) at the Embassy of India, Doha, graced the event as the chief guest. Dr Hameeda Kader, principal of MES Indian School, Doha, Qatar, and Neha Ghai, head of NRI - MENA region at HSBC, shared their insights as esteemed speakers. Laxmi Agarwal, real-life acid attack survivor and recipient of the International Women of Courage Award by Michelle Obama, delivered a powerful keynote speech. 

In his inaugural address, chapter chairperson CA Kamlesh Tibrewal acknowledged the significant contributions of women leaders within DCICAI and reiterated the chapter's commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity. 

Chief guest Bindu N Nair addressed the evolving societal attitudes towards gender equality, emphasizing this year's theme, ‘Investing in Women: Accelerate Progress.’ 

Dr Hameeda Kader, a passionate educator, stressed the importance of unity among women, emphasizing a collective journey of progress. She emphasized that women must no longer solely focus on empowerment but rather on the collective journey of progress, walking hand in hand with men. 

Neha Ghai, a reputed banker in the region, shared her personal journey and highlighted the crucial role of working women in society, encouraging women to seek guidance and support when needed.

The highlight of the event was the keynote speech by, Laxmi Agarwal, who shared her harrowing experience of surviving an acid attack at the tender age of 15. As Laxmi recounted her story, the entire audience could empathize with the pain and trauma she endured. However, what stood out the most was Laxmi's unwavering determination to overcome adversity and pursue her dreams despite the challenges she faced.

Vice chairperson CA Kishore Alex concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees, speakers, and sponsors for their contributions to the event's success.
