Udupi: Need not learn about women safety from BJP – Veronica Cornelio

Udupi, Apr 2: KPCC spokesperson Veronica Cornelio said that Congress need not learn culture lesson from BJP on women’s safety.

Veronica said, “It is better for BJP district spokesperson Geetanjali M Suvarna, who has accused Congress of providing anti-women administration, to introspect within her own party as to the way in which the women are treated. People of Karnataka have not forgotten BJP leaders like Renukacharya, Halappa and Ramdas, who praised women as mother and then conducted atrocities on them. The BJP government cheated women in the name of Beti Bachavo, Beti Padavo. What schemes did the BJP government introduced for women in Karnataka when they were in power? In the order Karnataka Educational Authority prohibited women candidates not to wear Mangalasutra, toe ring and any kind of ornaments while appearing for the examination. Now it is proven that the BJP is expert in turning lies into truth. Our party is the one that has brought several schemes for the benefit of women.

“The UPA government is the one which presented bill for 50% reservation for women in politics. The Congress also ensured 50% reservation for women in local bodies. In Karnataka free travel for women in bus and Rs 2000 per month to the woman head of the household is the gift of the Congress government.

“The BJP, which is showing concern on women, did not get down to the streets and protest against their own MP Shobha Karandlaje, who is representing Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency for the past 10 years when ‘Go back’ campaign was started by its own party workers? Is it not an insult to woman MP who is saying that she has worked honestly for 10 years?” she questioned.
