Udupi, Apr 6: In an effort to instill the values of sharing, caring, and service among its students, St Mary's campus in Kannarpady hosted a vibrant two-day Bharat Scouts and Guides Residential Summer Camp on April 1-2.

The inaugural ceremony marked the commencement of the camp with the hoisting of the scouts flag by scouts master Walter D'Souza. The event was graced by the presence of the correspondent Fr Charles Menezes, principal Fr Johnson Sequeira, vice principal Rita Quadros, and chief guest Sumana Shekhar, assistant state commissioner for Organization, Bharat Scouts and Guides. The lighting of the lamp symbolized the official inauguration, followed by inspiring speeches from the dignitaries, emphasizing the significance of scout values in today's society.

Day one of the camp witnessed a plethora of activities aimed at holistic development. Walter D'Souza led an engaging icebreaking session through creative group games and songs, fostering camaraderie among the campers. A workshop on modern drawing techniques conducted by Jagdish Acharya, art teacher, and sessions on nutrition, first aid skills, child psychology, and crafting skills were conducted by various experts and educators. The day concluded with campers showcasing their talents through dances, songs, and skits during the Campfire session, followed by an educational film screening.

On the second day, students embarked on a hiking expedition near Katpadi-Mattu region to explore rural agricultural practices. Interacting with local agriculturists, the students gained insights into organic farming methods, enriching their understanding of sustainable agricultural practices.

The success of the camp was attributed to the meticulous planning and execution led by principal Fr Johnson Sequeira and vice principal Rita Quadros. Senior scout master Walter D'Souza, along with a dedicated team of teachers including Amratha, Poornima, Umashree, Dorothy Pinto, Yashoda, Geetha, and Laveena, contributed significantly to the organization and management of the camp.

The event not only provided an enriching experience for the participants but also served as a platform for nurturing leadership qualities and promoting community service among the students of St Mary's campus.
