Schools in state set to reopen on May 29, board exams to continue

Bengaluru, Apr 7: The School Education Department has announced plans for the academic year 2024-25 for government, aided, non-aided primary, and high schools in Karnataka that follow the state syllabus. Accordingly, schools are scheduled to reopen on May 29.

The Evaluation examination, which faced legal issues last year, will continue in 2024-25 as well. The department stated that a separate circular will be issued to address this matter.

For the academic year 2024-25, the first term will run from May 29 to October 2, and the second term from October 21 to April 10, 2025. The academic calendar includes a total of 244 school working days, with 180 days allocated for teaching. Dasara holidays will be observed from October 3 to 20. In total, there will be 121 holidays during the next fiscal year.

These guidelines have been issued by the School Education Department to ensure uniform implementation of activities throughout the state's schools. The guidelines cover month-wise lesson distribution, extra-curricular activities, result-oriented activities, Celebration Saturday (a bag-free day), lesson-related activities, bank maintenance, examinations, and time for evaluation analysis.

Out of the 244 school days, 26 are designated for evaluation, 24 days for extra-curricular activities, 10 days for valuation and result declaration, and four days for local holidays.

Additionally, two pairs of free uniforms and textbooks for students from grades one to 10 in government schools, and textbooks for private schools, will be supplied to taluks. Headteachers are instructed to distribute these books to students in the first phase by April 10. The admission process is expected to be completed by June 30 as per the guidelines issued.
