Customs officials seize Rs 58.78 lac worth smuggled gold at Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru, Apr 12: Customs officials seized 812 grams of gold valued at Rs 58,78,880 from a passenger arriving from Dammam at the city's international airport on Thursday, April 11.

During a routine metal detector test, a beep emanated from the passenger's waist. Upon further inspection, officials discovered gold in paste form concealed within three round-shaped objects in the passenger's rectum. Subsequent extraction via a heating process revealed 812 grams of 24-carat gold.

The accused has been presented in court for further proceedings.
