Kasargod: Labourer Buried Alive in Landslide

Kasargod, Oct 7: In an incident which occurred at Paivalike Kalayi near Kumble on Thursday October 6 evening, a person was buried alive, while another was injured when they were engaged in road works.

The deceased has been identified as Shashikumar (20) from Hassan. Cement pipes were being laid with the help of backhoe under the earth at Kalai Cross Road as part of the road works,  when the accident occurred. As a huge mound of mud came crashing down all of a sudden, Shashikumar, working as a labourer, got buried and died on the spot.

A person named Mohammed Arif from Cherkala, who is a relative of the road works contractor, and who was supervising the work, suffered injuries. Arif was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore.

A case was registered in this connection at the local police station.
