Mangaluru, Apr 13: Gold ornaments worth Rs 3.91 lac were stolen in the AC coach of the Mangaluru-Bengaluru train on April 7.
A 74-year-old elderly woman, a resident of Jeppu along with her daughter and two grandchildren travelled in the Bengaluru-Mangaluru train on April 7 and reached their home in the morning on the following day.
When they checked their vanity bag, two bangles, chain and other gold ornaments weighing 59.885 gram worth Rs 3.91 lac were found missing.
The daughter of the elderly woman and the grandchildren slept at around 11.30 am in the train. However, the elderly woman was awake. After the train left Mysuru, a man who was sitting next to her did not sleep and was said to be observing the woman's baggages. He even touched the bags belonging to the grandchildren of the elderly woman.
He then told the woman that he would alight at Subramanya. Later, the elderly woman went to sleep. The theft came to light when the family reached their home at Jeppu.
A case in this regard is filed with the Railway police.
