New Delhi, Oct 7: Continuing his crusade against the UPA government over the proposed Jan Lokpal Bill, anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare has now appealed to the people of Hisar not to elect Congress in the upcoming byelections.
In a video posted on YouTube, Hazare said that Congress candidate should be made to bite the dust as the party is not committed to passing the Jan Lokpal Bill.
He further said that he had written to written letters to all the political parties urging them to support the Bill, and most of them had replied, including the BJP, but not Congress.
"Most of the parties, including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), replied to me affirming their support but I have not received any communication from the Congress," he said.
"If Congress is committed to passing the Jan Lokpal bill, then we will not hold any agitation. Instead, we will appeal to the people to check the antecedents of the candidates and vote for the good ones," he added.
The video was released by India Against Corruption, an NGO that has been at the forefront of the movement. The convener of the NGO Arvind Kejriwal, also a member of 'Team Anna' and advocate, will campaign in Hisar in support of the Jan Lokpal Bill till October 10.
Kejriwal said that a defeat in Hisar elections would be a wake up call to Congress to pass the Bill soon or face defeat elsewhere too.
