M'lore: Asst Labour Commissioner Venkatesh Sindhihatti Launches State’s Swalamban Prog

Mangalore, Oct 8: The registration for health insurance for the employees of unorganized sector, especially for domestic staff, ‘beedi’ labourers and auto rickshaw drivers, which is a significant project of the union ministry of labour and employment and ‘Swalamban’ programme of both union and state governments, was held at Don Bosco Hall here on Tuesday October 4.

State assistant labour commissioner Venkatesh Sindihatti inaugurated the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindhihatti urged the employees of the unorganized sector to enroll their names to avail state benefits.
 
Under the programme, if a member is hospitalized, one can avail financial support up to Rs 30,000. Five members of a family can be enrolled and travelling expenses of Rs 100 will be paid at the hospital cash counter in case of hospitalization. 

Those who would like to enroll in the programme, have to pay Rs 30. “The union government has reserved Rs 350 crore for this programme,” added Sindhihatti.

RTO C Mallikarjun, in his chief guest’s address, said that the transport authority has responded to the hike of auto rickshaw fare from Rs 13 to Rs 17.  He urged auto rickshaw drivers to be courteous to passengers.  “Beneficiaries will be entitled to compensation of Rs 50,000, in case of accidental death or caused by ailment,” added Sindhihatti.

He also assured support for the prepaid auto rickshaw counter at KSRTC bus stand.
Ivan D’Souza, president, city auto rickshaw owners’/drivers’ association, in his presidential address urged RTO and labour officers to educate the employees of the unorganized sector in availing state benefits.
 
Ivan D’Souza welcomed the gathering.  Association chief secretary Shekar Deralakatte proposed the vote of thanks. Rajesh Veera Nagar, Sitaram Shetty, and Wilfred D’Souza were present on the occasion.
