Mangaluru: ATL Community Day celebrated at Mount Carmel Central School

Mangaluru, Apr 17: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru celebrated the ATL Community Day on April 17 with educative sessions and engaging activities under the guidance of Suman Lasrado, the ATL coordinator along with the science faculty of the school.

The inaugural function began with a prayer service by the members of ATL club. Viona Pinto welcomed the gathering. Aneeka Sharma compered the ceremony highlighting the spirit of innovation, collaboration and creativity along with the immense potential in the generation today that shapes the future.

The chief guest for the day Tr Nirmala Linet Vaz of the school highlighted the significance of the day. Reminiscing her past as a student in science, she advised the students to make the best of the opportunities and to cherish the experiences.

Sr Melissa, the principal of the school addressing the audience emphasised on innovation and the importance of an ATL lab. She put forth a thought provoking question to the students asking them to think in what way they can contribute to the society to make it a better place through scientific innovations?

The participants were then directed to the school’s Atal Tinkering Lab wherein the activity sessions Think, Create and Believe were led by Gavin Sequeira, an alumni of the School and an ex-member of the ATL club and currently an engineering student at NMAMIT.

In the opening session he introduced the components at the ATL lab. Aaron Dsouza of grade IX with an audio-visual presentation showcased the activities held at the ATL lab at the school. Arduino, an open source electronic platform, the parts of the Arduino microcontroller was taught to the students.

The students were then formed into three groups with the names Thinkers, Creators and Believers with six students in each group. It was indeed a moment of joy to witness one of the participants from Rachna School, Belagola who enrolled in the programme along with the other participants.

Session 1 was on Multiple Reflection and Experiment on Pressure and Anti-gravity movement while Session 2 was on the Principle of conversion of Chemical energy to Electrical energy through flow of electrons. Session 3 was Newton's third law of motion and interchange of energy and Session 4 was a written quiz held in groups related to various sessions and the activities alike. At the closing ceremony, prizes were distributed to the winners by vice principal Sr Teena and Sr Supreetha.

All in all, the science faculty of the school along with the ATL club members made the day very interactive and engaging for the participants, awakening a desire in them to explore and innovate.
