Bellary: Vandalism in Government Offices – BJP Corporator Arrested

Bellary, Oct 9: BJP corporator of Bellary City Corporation, Diwakar, was arrested by the policemen on Friday October 7, but not before he tried to run away, and injured his leg in bargain. He is charged with vandalizing government offices during the ‘Bellary Bandh’ organized in protest against the arrest of former minister, G Janarhan Reddy, on September 6.

The policemen had been searching for Diwakar, corporator of 18th ward. They got information that Diwakar was to visit the house of a deceased relative on Friday. As soon as Diwakar arrived at the house located in Gandhinagar area here, the policemen raided the spot. Diwakar, on seeing the policemen, tried to flee, but fell down and fractured his leg.

The policemen took him into custody and provided treatment at Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences hospital here, before producing him in the court. The judge, after hearing the concerned, remanded Diwakar to judicial custody till October 22.

The policemen have alleged that several protestors led by Diwakar had entered the office of the deputy commissioner compound here, and demolished furniture, computers, window glasses etc in several offices located there. Some of them also are charged with pelting stones at some offices. Deputy commissioner, Amlan Aditya Biswas, himself had wielded a cane alongside the policemen to browbeat the protestors.

The policemen had arrested 11 of the accused the same day. City corporator, Diwakar, Sanil Reddy, personal assistant of MLA, Somashekhara Reddy, and Madhusudan had succeeded in evading arrest.
