Kadaba: St Joachim Church commemorates centenary celebration

Kadaba, Apr 18: The event, graced by the presence of Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, the bishop of Mangalore, Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy, the bishop of Beltangady and Dr Geevarghese Marc Makarios, the bishop of Puttur and other eminent dignitaries, by inaugurating the church gate and church bell witnessed a blend of prayer, gratitude, and recognition.

The celebration commenced with a Thanksgiving Eucharist presided over by Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop Dr Geevarghese Marc Makarios, Fr Paul Prakash, the parish priest and 50 priests participated in the con-celebration. The event witnessed the participation of many religious sisters and laity of the locality.

Following the Eucharist, a formal felicitation programme took place at the church hall. Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop Dr Geevarghese Marc Makarios, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, dean of Puttur deanery, Simon CA, superintendent of police, Sr Cecilia Mendonca BS, Bethany provincial superior of Mangalore province and Sr Anthony Mary, JMJ provincial superior Bangalore province were the dignitaries on the dais.

On the occasion of the centenary celebration, the parish priest and parishioners felicitated the former parish priests and superiors who served the parish towards its growth and mission. The priests and religious sisters who belong to the parish were also honoured. Former parish presidents and vice presidents were felicitated by all the dignitaries.

In his presidential address, Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha praised the significant contributions of all the parishioners and said, “We have come here with grateful heart for all the wonders God has done in each one's life through the powerful intercession of St Joachim.” The bishop congratulated everyone especially all the former parish priests and religious sisters for their dedicated and faith towards God. “Where there is faith, there the true light and this light gives life to everyone,” said the bishop and congratulated everyone.

Fr Paul Prakash D’Souza welcomed the gathering, Anish Lobo delivered the vote of thanks, and Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas led the grace before meals. Premjith and Sr Gretta Mascarenhas BS compeared the programme. A musical night was later held at St Joachim School ground.

    My dad was speaking about Ruzar Padryab, a great missionary, Fr. Rozario who build first chapel in Kadaba in those days. Congratulations to all faithful of Kadaba parish. Great news. Happy Centenary.
