K Jayaprakash Hegde proposes transforming Chikkamagaluru fandom into votes

Chikkamagaluru, Apr 21: As the elections in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts draw near, the enthusiastic support and encouragement from the public seem to be translating into tangible political backing, according to Udupi-Chikkmagaluru Lok Sabha candidate Jayaprakash Hegde.

Addressing a public gathering after a significant procession in Chikkamagaluru, Hegde expressed gratitude for the overwhelming display of affection from the people, viewing it as a sign of their desire for change. He attributed this sentiment to the developmental initiatives undertaken by the Congress party in the state, particularly highlighting the impact of the party's five guarantees aimed at improving the lives of the underprivileged.

Hegde emphasized his track record of developmental achievements, stating, "I have been in politics for the past four decades, and people are showing great love for me. Look at the things I have accomplished. Although I have been an MP for only 20 months, I have undertaken numerous developmental works in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru constituencies. Despite ten years passing since initiating a railway project, subsequent administrations failed to introduce another train."

"A situation was created where party members said 'go back.' Due to this, the competition withdrew from the field. If something is developed, the constituents will remember it when elections come. When I witnessed the love shown by the people while canvassing in the streets of Chikkamagaluru, I felt confident about winning," he added.

Hegde underscored the importance of tangible accomplishments in garnering voter support, citing his efforts to assist groundnut growers and advocate for pro-farmer policies as key factors in gaining the trust of the electorate.

Nayana Motamma, MLA of Mudigere, remarked, "Today, the women of the state are happy and confident because of the five guarantees provided by the Congress government. It is condemnable that the former chief minister joked about women going astray with this guarantee. The constituents will provide a fitting response to this during the polling on April 26. The opposition parties, who have overlooked development work, cannot tolerate the five guarantees offered by the Congress government."

She further stated, "Sarcasm becomes a weapon when the fear of defeat is overwhelming. Our candidate Jayaprakash Hegde is seeking votes by promoting development works, not by criticizing or ridiculing his rivals. Insulting women is not a part of Congress culture. It is the responsibility of all of us to secure victory for the Congress party today for tomorrow's peace."

Former MLA M P Kumaraswamy and other Congress workers were also present at the event.
